Overview

Faculty, Academic Staff, Limited Appointees or University Staff employees that earn sick leave, who requests to serve as a bone marrow or a human organ donor, are eligible for a paid leave of absence. During the paid leave of absence, you are not required to use any paid leave.

Paid Time Off:

  • Bone Marrow Donation – up to 5 work days off with pay
  • Human Organ Donation – up to 30 work days off with pay

If you need additional time off, you may either use paid leave or take an unpaid leave of absence. Additional time off is subject to institution approval.

The time you take off to be a donor meets the requirements and conditions of the Wisconsin and Federal Family and Medical Leave Acts (FMLA) and will be charged to your annual FMLA allocation.

You must submit an Intent To Donate Bone Marrow Or A Human Organ Form (UWS 425) pdf (or other written request acceptable to your institution) before a paid leave can be approved.
