We are very pleased with the Supreme Court’s decision today on the University of Michigan affirmative action cases. We welcome the court’s decisions that affirmed the compelling educational benefits flowing from a diverse student body. The University of Wisconsin System admission practices and policies follow the same approach as those of the University of Michigan that were upheld today. The court found the use of a point system unconstitutional; UW institutions do not use a point system.

We have been very supportive of the University of Michigan throughout this process and we remain committed to diversity within the UW System. We firmly believe that the diversity of our student body not only enhances the quality of our students’ educational experiences but also is in the best interests of our state and nation.
