MADISON— – University of Wisconsin System President Katharine C. Lyall announced Wednesday (July 23) that The Milwaukee Idea will be kept in motion at UW-Milwaukee by a strong leadership team composed of Provost John Wanat and Interim Chancellor Robert Greenstreet.

“It takes two people to replace Nancy Zimpher,” quipped Lyall. “I am looking to Interim Chancellor Greenstreet to maintain UWM’s extensive contacts with the community while Provost Wanat manages the on-campus agenda to keep UWM moving on all fronts. It is essential that UWM’s strong leadership with the K-12 schools continues and that the capital campaign also develops rapidly to attract potential candidates for the chancellorship.”

Greenstreet is dean of the UWM School of Architecture and Urban Planning, and he serves as the chancellor’s deputy for campus and urban design. A professor in the Department of Architecture, Greenstreet also chairs Milwaukee’s City Plan Commission and is a member of the Downtown Plan Committee.

Greenstreet previously taught at Ball State University in Indiana, the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and Oxford Brookes University in England, his alma mater. He has authored or co-authored six books, contributed to 15 other books or handbooks and written more than 150 articles and papers, many focusing on the legal aspects of architecture.

Lyall plans to name a campus search-and-screen committee by early September. She will work with committee members to identify a strong pool of chancellor candidates for consideration by the UW System Board of Regents in early 2004.

“Nancy Zimpher moved Wisconsin’s urban doctoral institution into the limelight—it is our responsibility to keep that momentum going,” Lyall said. “I urge the Milwaukee community, both on-campus and off, to join with us in making this a seamless transition.”
