“At this critical juncture in the state’s budget-making process, we want to thank members of the Joint Committee on Finance for their support of the University of Wisconsin System.

“Facing a complex array of budget proposals, legislators are making key decisions about Wisconsin’s future. Although we all have a long way to go before this budget is finalized, we are pleased that legislators from both parties and both houses agree that the state’s public university can and should play a lead role in creating a brighter future for all Wisconsin residents.

“We appreciate the bipartisan support for the Growth Agenda for Wisconsin initiatives. In supporting these proposals, developed in concert with local communities across the state, Committee members will empower more Wisconsin residents to earn their college degrees, and help our entire state compete more effectively in a global economy.

“Taken together with a previous vote of support for new academic building projects, this week’s Joint Finance action is a positive sign that legislators and educators can work together to create a bold new vision for Wisconsin and implement specific plans that move us toward that vision.

“We appreciate the efforts of Regents, students, alumni, community business leaders and other stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to communicate the relevance and value of our UW System.”
