MADISON – “Nancy Zimpher’s departure is a major loss for UW-Milwaukee, the UW System and the state. Her vigorous leadership has revitalized UWM and helped the university work with the larger Milwaukee community to strengthen K-12 education through the Milwaukee Partnership Academy, to boost economic development through TechStar, and in many other ways. The UW System will continue to support UWM’s mission as an engaged urban university as we seek a new leader to maintain the momentum.

“I thank Nancy for her hard work and leadership of the past five years. Her energy, vision, and sense of civic purpose are all too rare these days—she will be a hard act to follow!

“I expect the search process will start immediately and move rapidly; I would hope to have a new chancellor named early next year (in 2004).”
