Today, the UW System Board of Regents’ Executive Committee approved a resolution that will allow all UW comprehensive and research institutions to offer the UW Colleges’ Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree in the online format as part of the restructuring initiative.  The resolution also allows UW-Milwaukee to offer the AAS in the Flexible Option format.  These administrative changes ensure that students are able to take online classes anywhere, anytime.  It also guarantees their financial aid will follow them at all UW institutions, and credits will continue to transfer seamlessly.

“This is the best option for students.  It ensures financial aid and credit transfer will continue to support the student so they can move through the educational pipeline efficiently.  This approach of having UW institutions work together using a consortia model ensures students have the most options available to them during their educational experience” said UW System President Ray Cross.

The AAS degree satisfies the general education requirements at all UW institutions, including UW-Madison.  It is the foundation for more than 200 college majors, and demonstrates to employers that the student has advanced communication and critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in today’s workplaces.  Students can take courses towards completing their AAS at each two-year UW Colleges campus, online, or in the Flexible Option format, which allows a student to work at their own pace.
