MADISON — Twenty-nine members of the Wisconsin Bankers Association have committed a total of $51,500 to help underwrite the cost of Wisconsin Economic Summit II, to be held Nov. 26-27 at the Midwest Express Center in Milwaukee. The summit is sponsored by the University of Wisconsin System and the Board of Regents, in cooperation with business and government leaders from throughout the state.
Lead contributors are M&I Bank, Firstar, Bank One, Associated Bank and Johnson Bank. Others are Merchants & Manufacturers, Wells Fargo, Baylake Bank (Sturgeon Bay), Waukesha State Bank, Mutual Savings Bank, F&M Bank of Wisconsin, First National Bank of Platteville, Bank North (Crivitz), Jackson County Bank (Black River Falls), First Business Banks, Monona State Bank, The Stephenson National Bank and Trust (Marinette), The Equitable Bank, S.S.B. (Wauwatosa), St. Francis Bank, F.S.B. (Milwaukee), AnchorBank, Amcore Bank, First State Bank (New London), Wauwatosa Savings Bank, Ozaukee Bank (Cedarburg), Wisconsin Community Bank (Cottage Grove), Sunset Bank and Savings (Waukesha), The First Citizens State Bank of Whitewater, Farmers and Merchants Bank (Waterloo), and the Wisconsin Business Development Finance Corp. (Madison).
The decision to support Wisconsin’s second Economic Summit on behalf of the state’s 350 chartered financial institutions was an easy one, according to Harry J. Argue, executive vice president/CEO of the Wisconsin Bankers Association.
“Banks are essential to the infrastructure of each and every community across our state, and banks want to create a strategic vision for Wisconsin in the new and evolving economy,” he said. “Today’s economy has some major challenges ahead, but banks are teaming with educational, business and political leaders to work through them and move our state forward.”
“It’s an exciting time and Wisconsin’s banks are actively looking for opportunities to provide the necessary financing to help our state grow and prosper,” he added.
