People seeking jobs or promotions in the fields of transportation and logistics can earn professional certification through a new online program offered by the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

The Certified in Transportation and Logistics online program is offered by UW-Superior in partnership with the American Society of Transportation and Logistics. Certification in Transportation and Logistics is the premier professional credential that enables people to become leaders in the fields of transportation and logistics.

“This online program is a natural fit with UW-Superior’s existing undergraduate program in Transportation and Logistics Management and our Distance Learning Center,” said Sheryl Homan, program manager at the Center for Continuing Education. “We’re using the expertise and experience of our faculty members to help people throughout our region and beyond to expand their skills in career fields that are vital to the economy. This will be another way that UW-Superior educates Wisconsin’s workforce and contributes to our state’s economy.”

The Certified in Transportation and Logistics online program is available to active members of the American Society of Transportation and Logistics who have earned an undergraduate degree or acquired three years of experience in the field.

People enrolling in the program work with UW-Superior faculty members to complete six online learning modules and exams. The self-paced program can be completed in six months.

UW-Superior is the first university in the country to offer an online program leading to certification as a joint program of a university and the American Society of Transportation and Logistics. Because UW-Superior is an ASTL-approved provider, people who complete the six modules will earn certification without being required to take the organization’s national comprehensive exam. UW-Superior is one of just three universities in the country to offer that option through a noncredit program, and the only one to offer it online

Offering the certification program online enables UW-Superior to further expand the use of its Distance Learning resources to assist people around the state.

“Using our distance learning infrastructure to offer Certification in Transportation and Logistics vastly increases access to this valuable program,” said Dr. Richard Stewart, chair of the Department of Business and Economics at UW-Superior. “People who use the program can learn from home while they remain in their jobs and continue to contribute economically to their communities.”
