During the past 10 years, 16 of her students have been hired by PreventionGenetics after earning their bachelor’s degrees. While most were hired as clinical DNA testing laboratory technicians, others have become genetic counselors, working directly with clients, writing reports and managing communications. Among them is 2018 graduate Hannah Downs, pictured, hired as a lab tech.

UW-Stevens Point students not only learn useful information in a molecular biology course, they also conduct research for PreventionGenetics, a genetics testing laboratory in Marshfield. This gives students valuable research and lab experience and a significant competitive advantage when they graduate. In fact, several Point grads have already been hired by the firm.
