Before Your First Day

Things you Can Do

You’ve accepted the offer, negotiated your start date, and may be thinking, “now what?”

We want your onboarding experience to be as seamless as possible. You will receive a welcome letter outlining first day logistics, benefits and payroll information, instructions, and action items. If you’d like to get a head start by reading up on some of these items, use the links below.

Parking and transportation availability depends upon the physical location of your position. Details about parking and/or transportation availability are included in the welcome letter.

Madison-based Employees: instructions for making parking arrangements, costs and the specific location depends upon your building location.

UWSA employees may obtain a Madison Metro Bus Pass. This pass will allow you to ride all Madison buses for a small fee. You must show your Wiscard at the UW Transportation Services office in order to acquire your bus pass. For office location and hours, visit the Transportation Services website. NOTE: Bus passes are only valid from date of receipt to the following August/September. You will need to get a new bus pass every August/September.

UW-Madison campus also offers several free bus routes for around campus. For those employees using public transportation in Madison, annual passes are available for purchase.

UWSA employees may use the Child Care Resource Center provided by UW-Madison. It offers child care for the children of students, faculty and staff.  There are nine sites on or near campus that are licenses and accredited by the city of Madison or accredited by the National Association for Education of the Young Child.

UWSA employees are required to obtain a Wiscard for identification purposes. The Wiscard program is affiliated with UW-Madison. For this reason, it will indicate University of Wisconsin – Madison on your Wiscard, even though you work for UW System Administration. Your Wiscard should remain active and in your possession throughout the course of your employment.
