This past spring, twin sisters Ava and Emma talked about their unique paths at UW-Stout
They may be twins, but Ava and Emma Cinealis of Sheboygan, Wis., couldn’t have charted more distinct courses at UW-Stout. Both sisters graduated this spring, crediting UW-Stout’s unique polytechnic approach for giving them the foundation for their success, even while their academic journeys took them to very different destinations.
Ava delved into the world of science, graduating with a degree in Applied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with plans to ultimately become a professor, inspiring future generations of scientists.
Emma, graduating with a degree in Fashion Retail with a concentration in Apparel Design and Development, found her passion in the world of clothing and is now an Assistant Designer at Kohl’s in Menomonee Falls, Wis.

Despite their vastly different academic pursuits, both Ava and Emma credit UW-Stout’s polytechnic mission for providing them with a well-rounded education.
“What really appealed to me about UW-Stout was that it is a polytechnic school,” Ava said. “Where others might just learn about equipment, here I get to actually use the equipment.” Emma echoes this sentiment: “They just give you so many opportunities to grow outside of school with internships and they make you career ready.”
They also share a deep appreciation for the professors who guided them along the way.
“One thing I love about Stout is that you know all your professors by name, and they know you by name,” Ava explains. “Your professors really can help you, where they get to know you, and they know your personality and where you would thrive.”
