The University of Wisconsin-Platteville was recently designated as an official Mid-America OSHA Education Center training site, making it one of the only universities with a construction management program to be designated as such.  Hosted through the Department of Industrial Studies’ Construction Management and Construction Safety Management programs, this designation will allow industry partners to send employees to UW-Platteville to be certified in Occupational Safety and Health Administration courses. In addition, the UW-Platteville Department of Industrial Studies is home to three faculty who are certified instructors for the Mid-America OSHA Education Center – Gretchen Bockenhauer, industrial studies lecturer; Julie Durst, industrial studies lecturer; and Mark Miner, associate professor of industrial studies.

“The partnership brings a lot of excitement to our construction management and construction safety management programs, as we can now offer OSHA courses to our industry partners, alumni and local businesses,” said Bockenhauer.

Selected courses in general industry and construction will be offered this summer, including General Industry – OSHA 511 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry, General Industry OSHA – 501 Trainer Courses in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry, Construction – OSHA 510 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry, and Construction – OSHA 500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry.

Registration for all courses is available at midamericaosha.org.

The Department of Industrial Studies plans to collaborate with industry partners to determine their OSHA training needs and offer those courses within the next year.
