UW-Shared Services provides payroll, benefits, business services, and reporting services to UW System employees and universities.

POSITION SUMMARY

*This recruitment is open only to UW System Administration employees*

This position (seeking to fill two positions) will manage the routine and ad hoc payroll processes within and outside of Workday, our HR, payroll and financial system. This includes running processes in Workday, managing integrations and related data validations, analyzing data oddities, reviewing retroactive transactions, and monitoring for potential fraudulent activity. They will be expert in the payroll processing space and have significant knowledge of and support other core processes that interact with payroll (ie, HR, absence management, time tracking, benefits). These roles will provide the needed support that lies between and collaborates with the WEST team and our UWSS service delivery process teams.

This position will work collaboratively with all UWSS teams and the Workday Enterprise Support Team to support current operations as well as support the effort to build and enhance new work streams geared toward operational efficiency and automation of administrative services. This position primarily supports payroll processing and may be tasked with assisting other areas as needed (ie, HR, benefits, purchasing and finance).

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the bi-weekly payroll process including support of related Workday processes, integrations, data validations, etc.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and system issues including development of solutions
  • Recommend and participate in the implementation of system enhancements or changes that may involve custom design, optional, and third-party products
  • Provide guidance to unit staff in the design, development, and implementation of complex business processes
  • Perform complex data analyses and reporting
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to institutional and unit leadership on critical technology issues
  • Assure processes comply with applicable regulations and policies and provide adequate internal controls
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, a candidate must have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience in operational support of a large complex ERP or other multifaceted system
  • 5 years business or technical analyst experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Well qualified applicants will also have a substantial amount of experience in a combination of the following:

  • Experience in higher education or large complex organization
  • Experience with HR, payroll, and/or benefits business system support, especially Workday

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

WORK LOCATION

The office location is in Madison, WI. An in-office requirement is expected three days per week with the option to work the remaining two days off-site/remote. Telecommuting agreements are subject to change at any time.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The Business Systems Analyst (Official Title: Business Systems Analyst III (Inst)) is a full-time, salaried (exempt), academic staff position. Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $85,000 – $100,000 commensurate with the candidate’s education, related experience, and qualifications.
