1. Interim Policy Purpose

The purpose of this policy action is to accommodate circumstances presented by Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)while maintaining the intent of UW System Administrative Policy 170, Lawton Undergraduate Minority Retention Grant Program.

2. Related System Administrative Policies

This interim policy action temporarily waives portions of SYS 170, Lawton Undergraduate Minority Retention Grant Program. This interim policy action specifically applies to portions 6.f and 6.g.

3. Scope

This interim policy action applies to students at UW institutions who are initially eligible for the Lawton Undergraduate Minority Grant Program, or who are currently participating in the program and seeking to renew their participation.

5. Interim Policy Statement

During the spring 2020 semester, the Novel Coronavirus/COVID-19 caused disruption to study abroad programs, as well as other instructional activities. Disruption of study abroad participation due to Novel Coronavirus/COVID-19 may lead to difficulty meeting Lawton Undergraduate Minority Retention grant criteria for:

  1. initial eligibility (6. f.) requiring students to, “enroll for at least twenty-four credits per academic year”, and
  2. renewal awards (6.g.) requiring students to, “enroll in and complete at least twenty-four credits per academic year.”

To accommodate circumstances presented by Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) while maintaining the intent of SYS 170, Lawton Undergraduate Minority Retention Grant Program both aforementioned requirements regarding enrollment in and/or completion of twenty-four credits per academic year are waived. This waiver shall apply with regard to student enrollment activity during the spring 2020 semester as it pertains to current or future eligibility for, or enrollment in, the Lawton program.
