1) Campus Survey
VETS campuses will conduct regular surveys of student veterans identify needs, issues and suggestions. Surveys establish a baseline of performance and identify areas for action.
Provide evidence that a survey of student veterans is done that includes questions around how issues are identified and institutional responsiveness Please upload a copy of the survey, survey results, and brief description of how survey was delivered.
2) Campus Steering Committee
VETS Campuses will establish a campus steering committee composed of student veterans, faculty and staff to share information and provide guidance to institution leadership.
Upload a roster of committee members, a schedule of how frequently the committee meets and a record, if any, of recommendations or reports developed by the committee. The purpose of the steering committee may be to share information and provide guidance to institution leadership in efforts to integrate veterans in the campus culture and identify needs of the student veterans.
3) Training
VETS Campuses will offer and promote training for faculty and staff on issues student veterans may face in the areas of scheduling, social connections, study habits and health and welfare challenges.
Upload a description of key staff who regularly provide support to student veterans and who have received training on issues affecting the student veterans.
Upload a description of efforts (print, web, etc) to widely train all faculty and staff on issues affecting student veterans.
Note: UWSA support for campus training modules (Kognito packages) will assist all campuses to meet the training requirement.
In addition, VETS campuses will prioritize and support ongoing professional development for the School Certifying Official and other staff who support student veterans.
Upload a description of professional development activities made available to the School Certifying Official and any evidence of staff working with student veterans engaging in campus wide planning and policy development efforts.
4) Orientation
VETS Campuses will integrate information for student veterans into orientation programming as appropriate including information about student organizations that target student veterans as members.
Upload information (print, web, video) about orientation programs, including the use of student veterans as guides, and any veteran focused orientation sessions. Orientations should introduce the Veterans Resource Center as well as education and disability benefits offices and academic and career counseling services available to student veterans.
5) Support Programs
At a minimum VETS Campuses will have a process in place to refer student veterans to internal and external counseling resources. Counseling resources may address a range of academic, financial and social issues that impact student veterans and their families.
Upload evidence (print, web, video) that describes outreach to student veterans and connections to counseling resources.
6) Resource Center
VETS Campuses will have a dedicated single location where student veterans can receive help in relation to benefits, enrollment and connecting to supportive resources.
Provide evidence (print, web, video) that describes the development of a resource center, its location, staffing and usage. Please describe how the center functions on campus and how student veterans use the center. Student veteran groups may be linked to or meet at the Resource Center.
