Enterprise Systems Governance

The Workday Enterprise and Solutions Team (WEST) governance framework is designed to maximize how enterprise systems such as Workday, ShopUW+ and other WEST-supported tools are managed and improved. This framework implements a clear structure that:

  • Increases transparency in decision-making
  • Encourages collaboration across universities and departments
  • Prioritizes projects and system changes to best support the Universities of Wisconsin

Design Strategies

Design strategies guide WEST governance in developing processes and establishing solutions for enterprise system issues. The design strategies are:

  • Develop solutions that establish or maintain standardization in administrative business processes and technical designs.
  • Strive for solutions that do not add additional complexity into our business processes and technical systems. Simplify further when possible. Focus on the following:
    • Establish “just enough complexity”
    • Maintain flexibility where it doesn’t increase complexity
    • Consider the complete end-to-end business process
    • Highlight where added complexity will drive additional cost and weigh against the potential benefit

Shared responsibility

The success of our HR- and finance-related business processes depends on shared responsibility across the Universities of Wisconsin. Function-focused committees and councils collaborate to provide oversight and governance, improving processes and enhancing the use of enterprise systems.

Campus representation

The Finance and Human Capital Management (HCM) Councils are supported by business domain working groups that collaborate to improve processes and enhance the use of enterprise systems. Working group members from across the Universities contribute their diverse perspectives to ensure campus needs and impacts are fully considered when developing solutions.
