Institutional support is critical for faculty and instructors, especially during the pandemic. We have to make huge choices about the mode of instruction (sometimes on a daily or weekly basis), as well as handle increased student needs, so it is important to know that our choices are being supported by our administration. My understand of teaching and learning has grown to be more human-centered than content-centered, so I have increasingly spent time getting to know my students’ interests beyond the course and reminding them about the importance of self-care and mental health. The role of OPID Advisory Council to me as an instructor is to help me stay abreast of System initiatives and bring my campus voice to the administrators who make decisions that directly impact me and my students.
