Workday for IT Professionals

As an IT professional, you may need to use Workday data in the systems or reports that you support.

Some examples of how Workday information may be used include:

  • Supporting access provisioning
  • Determining workflow(s) in an application
  • Connecting transactions in an ancillary system with Workday
  • Supporting decision-making and meeting operational reporting needs (in Workday)
  • Supporting decision-making when combined with non-HR/Finance or legacy data (outside of Workday)
  • Meeting mandated reporting requirements

You should collaborate closely with your human resources and finance colleagues to understand how data and business processes have changed with the transition to Workday. This allows for a comprehensive approach to solutioning for your data and reporting needs.

How to Interact With Workday Data

There are several options for interacting with Workday. Expand the menus to find resources to help you identify what’s available and what makes the most sense for your need(s).

Workday Reporting

Access to data within Workday reports is controlled by a combination of assigned security roles and areas of responsibility, meaning two users with different levels of Workday security may see different information. Explore the Workday Reporting page to understand more about reporting in Workday, see inventories and crosswalks, and watch reporting office hours.

Administrative Data in the Enterprise Analytics Platform

Administrative data available in the Enterprise Analytics Platform (EAP) includes financial, human resources, and research administration data from legacy PeopleSoft systems (Human Resource System and Shared Financial System), Workday, and the Research Administration Management Portal (RAMP). This environment will continue to develop and mature.

Integration Hub (UW–Madison)

UW–Madison’s Integration Hub provides multiple options for integrating with Workday data through either Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) or Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services (IICS) integrations. They have developed a self-paced integrator training that raises awareness about modern integration techniques and technologies, enables self-service integration development, and includes hands-on labs and quizzes to reinforce concepts and learning outcomes.
