Gifting
The Office of Trust Funds and foundations of UW institutions are legally separate entities. Foundations actively solicit gifts and accept all those that name the foundation directly. In the event a gift does not specifically name a foundation, it is considered to be intended for the Board of Regents and becomes part of the Office of Trust Funds.
Each foundation has their own process for gifts. Please contact them if you are interested in making a gift that names the foundation directly. Or, contact the Office of Trust Funds staff if you have questions about making a gift that does not name a foundation.
Taxes
The Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System is a State of Wisconsin agency and subject to regulations by the Wisconsin State Legislature. The following documentation may be needed for processing gifts/bequests:
- Letter from the UWSA General Counsel regarding our tax-exempt status.
- Chapter 100, Wisconsin Laws of 1971 which created the University of Wisconsin System (Articles of Incorporation).
- Bylaws of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents.
