The use and abuse of alcohol has been an ongoing matter of significant concern. The University of Wisconsin System recognizes the importance of addressing this issue on its campuses and in its communities as it interferes with the education and well-being of its students.

UW System helps to coordinate efforts that support and enhance institutional initiatives related to Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) issues by:

  • Administering AODA related grants to UW System institutions
  • Hosting the biennial AODA Symposium and UW System AODA Committee meetings
  • Conducting the UW System AODA Survey
  • Regularly updating the Board of Regents and other UW System leadership on current AODA issues

The UW System AODA Committee is made up of multiple stakeholders from UW System institutions as well as other educational sectors and agencies. Since its inception in 1998, the UW System AODA Committee has continued to meet several times each year to support ongoing initiatives and accomplishments which include:

  • The biennial systemwide AODA Symposium focused on AODA-related topics including coalition building, environmental management, policy development, and policy review
  • The biennial UW System AODA Student Survey
  • The drafting of policy documents such as the UW System AODA Strategic Goals and the Chancellor’s Toolkit on AODA
  • The procurement and administration of AODA related grant awards
