“The truth is that my family and I always assumed I’d be taking a gap year after high school to work full-time and save money for college. But I was encouraged to fill out the FAFSA just to see if we qualified for any types of aid. It turned out that I received need-based federal grants that covered most of my tuition for each semester this past year, and a few scholarships covered the rest. One of the draws to UW-Eau Claire was the relative affordability, but it’s fair to say that without my financial aid I simply could not have been able to attend this last year.”

“When I started college, I was worried about how I would manage all the expenses. Applying for FAFSA each year and receiving loans helped ease much of that financial stress, allowing me to focus on my academics. This support made it possible for me to purchase required textbooks, cover room and board, and maintain a meal plan. It also allowed me to pay for a class that was necessary for earning my certificate, which I may not have been able to afford otherwise.”
