Central IT provides each employee one computer needed to perform his or her job.  Please read the information below to understand our computer purchase and replacement policies.

New employees will be issued an existing, under warranty Windows-based laptop whenever possible in order to maximize the return on our equipment investment.  Please note that existing equipment might not be the same as what is currently offered as a new computer.  A new laptop will be purchased for the employee if there are no acceptable unused computers available.

Central IT replaces employee computer equipment on a cycle of not less than four years depending upon available funding.  The employee will receive the current standard laptop package unless an alternative is approved by the employee's supervisor (see Exceptions and Alternatives below).  Monitors will not be replaced as long as they are functional and meet the employee’s needs.

Managers who feel staff need a configuration that is not met by the standard configurations offered can request an exception. The Client Services manager will make the final decision on whether the request will be granted. Central IT will work with the department to determine appropriate adjustments to meet the needs of the employee without causing an undue support burden.

Managers who feel a staff member needs more than one workstation can request an exception. The Client Services manager will make the final decision on whether the request will be granted.

If the computing needs of an employee exceed the cost of the standard configuration (currently $1300), the manager will provide departmental funding for the difference.

Additional computing equipment and peripherals beyond what is included in the standard offering and software not included in our enterprise software licensing agreements must be funded by the employee’s department.

Central IT will coordinate all purchasing of supported computing equipment.
