Information Services provides each employee one computer needed to perform his or her job.  Please read the information below to understand our computer purchase and replacement policies.

New employees will be issued an existing, under warranty Windows-based laptop whenever possible in order to maximize the return on our equipment investment.  Please note that existing equipment might not be the same as what is currently offered as a new computer.  A new laptop will be purchased for the employee if there are no acceptable unused computers available.

Information Services replaces employee computer equipment on a cycle of not less than four years depending upon available funding.   The employee will receive the current standard laptop package unless an alternative is approved by the employee's supervisor (see Alternatives to the Standard Packages below). Monitors will not be replaced as long as they are functional and meet the employee’s needs.

Employees may select a tablet or non-Windows computer instead of the standard Windows computers at the discretion of his or her supervisor; however, Information Services’ ability to support non-standard configurations or software is limited.  The supervisor must ensure the selected computer is capable of running all software that is required for the employee to do his or her job.

Information Services will cover the cost of an alternative up to the current cost of the standard laptop package.  Costs beyond the cost of the standard laptop package must be paid by the employee’s department.  We will periodically review the standard packages and make necessary adjustments as newer technologies and requirements surface.

Additional computing equipment and peripherals beyond what is included in the standard offering and software not included in our enterprise software licensing agreements must be funded by the employee’s department.
