The Marketing and Communications Specialist will help develop, coordinate and execute efforts that support new, one-time and ongoing projects across all of the Institute’s program units, whose external audiences include businesses, economic developers, partners/stakeholders and UW System institutions. Working with the marketing and communications manager as well as program unit managers and Institute staff, the specialist will help tell the Institute’s story through strategically coordinated efforts across multiple platforms. This person reports to the Institute’s marketing and communications manager.



  • Contribute to, strengthen and reinforce branding and messaging for all Institute units Implement consistent messaging methods and practices across all units and programs that articulate IBE’s core strategies
  • Deliver the marketing needs for the Institute’s initiatives and events, from creating/designing print/digital collateral to providing in-person support
  • Cultivate external relations and public relations activities
  • Coordinate content production and publishing
  • Ensure the Institute adheres to the branding guidelines and standards set by the institution and sponsors


  • Write and create content for communications and storytelling across various delivery methods (print, email, website, social media, video, presentations, etc.), working closely with program unit directors and managers
  • Coordinate and execute the accurate and timely execution of outreach and marketing campaigns to external and internal stakeholders
  • Manage the creation and oversight of templates, logos and promotional materials
  • Collaborate and communicate with other Institute professionals with program unit marketing and communications duties
  • Coordinate with contracted professionals to produce quality collateral material as needed


  • Collaborate with marketing, data/IT and program unit managers to create and evolve content/pages/functionality
  • Oversee website content for consistency, accuracy, and relevancy
  • Manage documentation of and assist with training on website management and content creation tasks
  • Contribute to and execute a coordinated social media strategy that strengthens all aspects of IBE’s digital presence across multiple channels


  • Evaluate data analytics and their tools
  • Gather information for reports and publications to tell the data story and convey the value of our impact for internal and external audiences
  • Other duties as assigned


To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 3 years’ experience in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, digital media production, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience, is necessary
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with modern marketing strategies and techniques
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills, design aesthetic and strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, Buffer or other emerging platforms
  • Experience in website design, implementation, maintenance and content creation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, MailChimp and Google
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with outstanding problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication (oral, listening and speaking), diplomacy, discretion and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to interact and engage professionally with a diverse group of individuals and organizations

Preferred Qualifications

Well-qualified applicants will also have experience in the following:

  • Demonstrated appreciation for data analysis and interpretation.
  • Experience with and interest in growing design and video skills.

Conditions of Employment

The Marketing and Communications Specialist (Official Title: Marketing Specialist S74DN) is a full-time, salaried (exempt) academic staff position. The successful candidates can expect to make between $50,000 – $55,000 on an annual basis commensurate with qualifications and experience. UW System employees receive an excellent benefit package.
