Summary

Remote access to network drives/folders (on Windows computers: G:, H:, and U:) requires use of VPN software. This document describes how to use a VPN connection to access UWSA network resources. Once established, this connection will allow UWSA staff to access network file resources, databases, or connect to your desktop computer via Microsoft Remote Desktop.

The VPN service is provided by UW-Madison’s Department of Information Technology (DoIT), and is referred to as ‘Departmental SSL VPN Service’.

Important Notes

  • These instructions will work for computers using Windows or Mac OS. Other desktop operating systems are unsupported.
  • UW System Administration staff use their UWSA network credentials to authenticate (NOT your UW-Madison NetID).
  • This service requires that the Cisco AnyConnect client be installed on your computer. These instructions will install the client on your computer if it is not yet installed.
