Decision

Tuition will not change for 2018-19. The tuition guidance below offers clarity for academic year 2019-20 and is based on UW Colleges existing curriculum and the home campus of the student.

AAS students at branch campuses:
  • Existing UW Colleges tuition rates will apply.
  • Students will pay receiving institution tuition for any new curricula or courses offered at the branch campus.
  • All courses taken at the receiving institution will be charged at the receiving institution’s rate; however, the receiving institution may discount said tuition in accordance with existing policies and procedures.
Receiving institution baccalaureate students:
  • Receiving institution’s tuition rate will apply.
  • Students will pay receiving institution tuition for any new curricula or courses offered at the branch campus.
Online:
  • Tuition for UW Colleges online courses and programs will remain the same for 2018-19.
  • Review and analysis for 2019-20 online tuition rates will be accomplished prior to September 1, 2018 (tentative).
Segregated Fees:
  • Full-time AAS students at branch campuses will be charged existing UW Colleges segregated fees
  • Full-time baccalaureate students will be charged receiving institution’s segregated fees.
  • Other scenarios will be at the discretion of the receiving institutions.
    System Policy:
  • UW System Administration will modify or waive System policy 805.6.A.15 as needed.

Background

Receiving institutions need to assess how to best integrate multiple tuition structures from UW Colleges and UW-Extension. Receiving institutions have requested clarity on tuition structures in order to move forward with financial and academic planning. Vice President Sean Nelson requested that Chancellors at each institution provide their proposal for how their campus is considering future tuition structures. President Cross made the aforementioned decision after reviewing the institutional proposals.

Next Steps

UW System will modify System policy 805.6.A.15 to reflect the above decision and will establish future tuition structure options during the 2018-19 transition year. Questions around tuition can be clarified through the Project Management Office.
