Transfer of faculty tenure from UW Colleges to receiving institutions will be memorialized at the June 7-8, 2018 meeting of the UW System Board of Regents (BOR).

The BOR resolution authorizing the restructuring stated:

“UW Colleges and UW-Extension employees who become employees of a UW System campus or UW System Administration shall continue to enjoy job security rights and shared governance rights consistent with their current appointment at UW Colleges and UW-Extension, the particulars of which will be developed by campus administration
and UW System Administration in consultation with relevant governance bodies.”

James Henderson, UW System Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, recommended to the Steering Committee that the Board of Regents formally memorialize the transfer of faculty tenure from the UW Colleges to the receiving institutions.

Next Steps

To prepare for this BOR action, both the UW Colleges and the receiving institutions will provide a list of current tenure assignments to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs by May 9, 2018. Approximately 200 tenured faculty members will be affected by this action.

Further discussion is needed on the transfer of tenure-track professors to the receiving institutions, as well as the post-tenure review and promotion standards for tenured and tenure track faculty at the receiving institutions.
