Decision

Students enrolled in the online AAS degree who have selected UW Colleges Online as their home campus will be assigned in the UW Colleges PRISM student information system to the branch campus closest to their zip code.

Background

After the proposed UW System restructuring on July 1, 2018 UW Colleges will no longer be accredited to offer an online AAS degree program from the UW Colleges Online “campus.” Because students must be affiliated with an accredited campus to receive financial aid, UW Colleges Online students currently enrolled in the AAS degree must be re-assigned to a branch campus which will be accredited, pending HLC approval, as a branch of the receiving institution after July 1, 2018. Reassignment planning will occur prior to HLC approval and the final authorization of the reassignment occurring thereafter.

President Cross confirmed the Steering Committee recommendation from March 16, 2018, that students enrolled in the UW Colleges online AAS degree will be assigned in the UW Colleges PRISM student information system to the branch campus closest to their zip code. This reassignment does not imply that the students must take face-to-face courses at that physical location, only that they will be considered students of that campus for financial aid purposes.

Next Steps

Reassignment planning will occur prior to HLC approval and the final authorization of the reassignment for each student enrolled in the AAS Online program occurring thereafter. Students will be assigned in the UW Colleges PRISM student information system to the appropriate branch campus by zip code. This affects approximately 1,024 current students.

Each receiving institution needs to complete the AAS substantive change request form to accommodate the AAS Online program.
