The proposed new Regent Policy Document (RPD) addresses current statutory language which outlines the Board of Regents’ authority to set a uniform application fee to groups of applicants—undergraduate applicants, graduate applicants, law school applicants, and medical school applicants—while requiring uniform fees within a group. If approved, this new RPD would delegate authority to the UW System President to develop criteria for UW institutions to use in waiving application fees. A draft of this policy is included below.
The UW System President would exercise the admission fee waiver delegation by amending UW System Policy 805, Tuition and Fee Policies for Credit Instruction to add section 6.B.3. A link to the draft of this amended policy is included below. The waiver authorities in the draft amended UW System Policy 805, Tuition and Fee Policies for Credit Instruction include a waiver based on financial need, and where all Chancellors and the President uniformly agree on application fee waiver periods. This would allow the UW System President and UW System Administration staff to work with institutions to ensure some degree of uniformity among like institutions. Approved application fee receipts and waiver amounts would be reported to Board of Regents annually.
