Tuition & Fees Policy Approved

On August 24, 2020, Interim President Thompson approved SYS 805, Tuition and Fee Policies for Credit Instruction. This policy revision stems from the recent approval of the Board of Regents Policy Document 32-8, Application Fees and Waiver. For more information on the SYS policy revision, see below.

SYS 805, Tuition and Fee Policies for Credit Instruction

This policy will be effective upon approval.

Summary of Policy and Policy Revisions

  • SYS 805, Tuition and Fee Policies for Credit Instructionoutlines statutory, Board of Regents, and administrative policy provisions with respect to the payment and refund of fees and a variety of specialized fee assessment issues. This revision adds section B.3 Application Fee Waivers.
    • Transfer students-Students transferring from a UW branch campus or UW university to another UW university within one year must have application fees waived.
    • Financial NeedSection B.3 Application Fee Waiversoutlines the circumstances in which an institution may elect to waive an application fee for an applicant.
    • Unanimous Agreement-At an individual institution, application fees may be waived for any group of students for no more than one week if all Chancellors in the UW System agree. For all institutions collectively, application fees may be waived for any group of students for no more than one week by the President of the System of if all Chancellors in the UW System agree and the President of the System agrees.

  • This policy applies to the assessment of tuition and fees at all UW System institutions.

Campus Implementation

  • Campuses must adhere to the provisions of this policy.

SYS 1000, General Terms and Definitions

This policy will be effective upon approval.

Summary of Policy and Policy Revisions

  • The purpose of this policy is to provide a list of general terms and definitions that are used in the 1000 series of the UW System Administrative policy set as well as additional definitions, as required, to provide clarity and consistency across all UW System Administration information security policies, documents and systemwide initiatives.
  • New definitions, and material edits to existing definitions, will be circulated for institutional vetting prior to addition to this policy.

Affected Areas on Campuses

  • This policy applies to all institutions and areas on campus when interpreting the 1000 series of UW System Administrative policy.

Campus Implementation

  • No reporting or implementation steps are required by institutions.
