On March 5, 2015, the UW System Board of Regents was presented with a “deep dive” session entitled “Instructional Technology in the UW System: How Faculty and Staff are Using Instructional Technology to Enhance Student Learning.” The session was introduced by David J. Ward, Interim Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs for the UW System, and included the following three panel sessions:
- The first panel discussed how the use of technology in teaching and learning has changed, as well as the digitization of academic content, and featured Dr. Robert Hoar, Chair, Learn@UW Executive Committee and Associate Vice Chancellor from UW-La Crosse, Dr. Dawn Drake, Executive Director Alternative Delivery Systems from UW-Platteville, and Sasi Pillay, Associate Vice Chancellor and CIO from UW System Administration.
- The second panel focused on faculty use of technology in teaching and learning, and examples demonstrating how technology has impacted their teaching was shared by Dr. Jamie Schneider, Associate Professor in Chemistry from UW-River Falls and Diane Reddy, Professor in Psychology from UW-Milwaukee.
- The final panel included Dr. Beverly Kopper, Provost, UW-Whitewater and Dr. Sarah Mangelsdorf, Provost, UW-Madison. The Provosts discussed how campuses operationalize instructional technology and focused on the types of issues they face when making decisions about instructional technologies, as well as their perspectives on the impact instructional technology has on instruction and faculty development.
