August will bring opportunities for learning and training among staff and key faculty champions, and the Student Ambassadors will prepare to introduce the mobile app to new students during their welcome program. UW-Green Bay also has hired Pooja Agarwal as the Student Success Evaluation and Retention Coordinator, who will serve as the app administrator, key trainer and data analyst for EAB Navigate.

UW-Platteville launched the Navigate Student App with incoming students during New Student Registration events in June and July. Many students seemed interested in tools like “Study Buddies” and had downloaded the app by the end of their day on campus. As summer progresses, students will find helpful to-do items from offices like Residence Life and Student Activities to help them stay engaged with campus until they return for the new semester.

All of the engagement teams at UW-Stevens Point are continuing to work toward a first phase launch for fall 2019. Leadership has been working closely with departments across campus to create a comprehensive list of Categories. To-Dos and Tips have been compiled. The creation of User Roles and Permissions is in progress, and data validation ramped up to coordinate with the July site walk-through.

UW-Eau Claire began promoting Navigate Student to the incoming class during New Student Orientation in June and the Promotion Team is working on plans for further app promotion throughout welcome programming in early September. The Content Team has been working hard to build Resources, To-Dos, and Calendar Events. Campus partners also met to discuss plans for collaborative cross-promotion of multiple campus apps in the fall.

The content team at UW Oshkosh is putting the finishing touches on their Resources section, and they’re well underway in their work on To-Dos and Events. They have confirmed a test audience of student leaders from a variety of university departments, and they are working with first-year seminar leaders to integrate the app into curricula for new Titans.

Jeremy Page, Assistant Dean of Student Services for the School of Education, is now part of the UW-Milwaukee leadership team with the goal of elevating the use of analytics and faculty participation. Additionally, UW-Milwaukee continues to make strides to on-board their two-year campuses prior to the start of the fall semester.

UW-La Crosse is undertaking a phased approach. They have an on-site training day scheduled Aug. 13. They will be rolling out advising and scheduling with their professional advisors and faculty pilot group this fall. They plan to start using early alert in spring 2020 and will deploy the app to first year students during registration next summer.

UW-Superior has been working on promotional tactics based on roll-out dates, starting with a range of activities to reach first year students in late August and early September (examples include promotions in residence halls, downloads encouraged during early arrival programs and by residence life student staff during move in, promos on video monitors, and a 30-minute session during the Weekend of Welcome); faculty and staff in early fall (examples include a program owner message based on an EAB template and faculty champions communicating early successes and challenges at standing faculty meetings); multiple opportunities to reach non-first year students; and additional communications with faculty and staff after the initial roll-out. One post roll-out plan includes faculty champions developing a best practices resource to use with peers.

Members of the UW-River Falls technical team, registrar’s office, and several academic advisors had a day-long working session in July—led by Eris Hanson, the technical project manager from EAB—to validate data. The testing was done to validate that the university’s eSIS Student, term, and course data was coming over correctly. This is just one of many technical proofing steps to ensure that the Navigate system has accurate and timely student data. Additional UW-River Falls June-July highlights follow:

UW-River Falls is searching for a Director of Student Success whose duties will include responsibility for oversight of Navigate.

They’ve selected October 2019 as the “go live” date for a release of Navigate to a test group of students, faculty champions, and professional advisors. January 2020 has been identified as the time frame when Navigate will be rolled out for all other advisors and students.

Faculty champions have been exploring and meeting to discuss the Whitehurst Campus Test Site, using the information to inform the development of the UW-River Falls site.

The Content Team is finalizing its student input survey. The survey will be used to help advisors and support service staff better understand student interests and needs when it comes to support that will be available once Navigate goes live this fall.

The Workflow and Training Engagement Team has completed work on several key configurations within the Advising Care Unit, specifically the Services and Communications tabs. In addition, the Appointment Summary Templates have been configured to allow for all advisors, professional and faculty, to highlight specific key indicators that could have an impact on student success.

UW-Superior training on-site in late July

Resources

EAB upcoming webinars

Developing a Best-Practices Faculty Training Strategy: 1-2 p.m. Aug. 13

The suggested audience is program owners, application administrators, trainers and faculty champions

This session will discuss strategies for developing a phased training plan for faculty that is sensitive to their varied responsibilities—from administration to research to teaching to advising—and the cyclical nature of their various roles.
