SUMMARY:EAB Working Session: Improving Virtual Advising to Promote Student Retention During the COVID-19 Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:Description: Academic advisors and faculty traditionally relied on in-person meetings with their advisees to check-in with students and provide necessary course selection guidance. With the current disruption caused by COVID-19\, it is more challenging to make sure advisors can connect with all advisees and identify students who need the most support. \nIn this virtual working session\, you will discuss how to adapt advising procedures with a small group of peers. Participants will have the chance to share their own ideas\, explore how peers are reshaping their advising programs\, and help shape and direct EAB research. \nTopics include: \n\nHow to manage advising caseloads in a remote environment?\nHow to identify students who need support while remote?\nHow to support registration for the fall given current uncertainties?\n\nAudience suggested by EAB: \n\nInstitutional student success leaders\n\nRegistration: Required in advance

SUMMARY:EAB Working Session: Removing Academic and Financial Barriers to Re-enrollment During the COVID-19 Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:Description: In this unprecedented situation\, academic leaders must ensure that student success is not disrupted by inflexible policies and must put procedures in place to mitigate the impacts of the disruption caused by COVID-19. By adapting key policies and procedures for the rest of the term\, institutions can ensure academic continuity and encourage student registration and reenrollment in the fall. \nIn this virtual working session\, participants discussed revamping institutional policies and procedures with a small group of peers. Participants had the chance to share their own ideas\, explore how peers are revising their policies\, and help shape and direct EAB research. Topics include: \n\nHow to manage registration holds when student financial circumstances have changed?\nHow to ensure students are completing financial aid paperwork during the crisis?\nHow to continue to offer and disburse emergency microgrants?\n\nAudience suggested by EAB: \n\nInstitutional student success leaders\n\n
