Task Force on Campus Climate (2016-Present)
The Task Force on Campus Climate is tasked with examining the climate for students on the UW campuses.
Tuition-setting Policy Task Force (2015-Present)
The Tuition-setting Policy Task Force is tasked with developing recommendations for consideration by the Board of Regents as the Board revises its policies on tuition setting and tuition increases.
Tenure Policy Task Force (2015)
The legislature made changes to tenure in the 2015-17 State Budget. It removed existing statutory language on tenure and added new language outlining procedures for the layoff of faculty. In response to these changes the Board of Regents immediately imported the former statutory language on tenure as Board policy. In addition, when the legislative changes were being discussed, then-Regent President Falbo and UW System President Ray Cross appointed the Tenure Policy Task Force to review tenure policy and to make recommendations to the Board. The Board adopted new and revised tenure policies, based on the task force’s recommendations, in March 2016.
Charting a New Course for the UW System (2003-04)
This report marks the conclusion of a year-long study by the Board of Regents in collaboration with students, faculty and staff, campus and system administrators, and others to address the needs of Wisconsin’s future, looking inward for additional efficiencies and revenue streams, as well as for ways that new technologies can enhance the University of Wisconsin’s service to students and the state. The report also looked at ways that legislative changes can better enable the University of Wisconsin System to fulfill those missions.
Study of the UW System in the 21st Century (1995-96)
In August 1995, the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System initiated a 10-month study to examine and address the key challenges facing public higher education in Wisconsin during a time of competing demands for state resources. With participation by faculty, staff, students, elected officials, and the public, a series of draft recommendations were prepared by the Board for discussion with the UW System’s stakeholders. Five regional public hearings were conducted by the Board. These were followed by a statewide “town hall” discussion sponsored by a consortium of commercial and public media outlets. More than 1,200 individuals commented on the draft recommendations and related issues, reaffirming a broad interest in the UW System by the people of Wisconsin. In consideration of their thoughtful observations and suggestions, the final report of Study of the UW System in the 21st Century was prepared.
Planning the Future – Report of the Regents on the Future of the UW System (1985-86)
A November 1979 report, “Preparing for a Decade of Enrollment Decline,” predicted years of enrollment decline and budget reductions for the University of Wisconsin System. That prediction was half right. The report projected that in 1986 the UW System would enroll 137,289 students. In 1985 the University of Wisconsin System actually enrolled 164,546 students but without proportional fiscal support for these additional students. Prompted in part by the recognition that such divergence of enrollment and funding cannot continue, in January 1986 the Regents of the University of Wisconsin System began a study of the future of the UW System.
