Associate Professor | School of Business, College of Business, Industry, Life Science, and Agriculture<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Sameer Ahmed serves as an Associate Professor of Human Resource Management at the University of Wisconsin\u2013Platteville’s School of Business, with a passion for transforming teaching and learning through experiential pedagogies, as well as promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and faculty development. With over twenty years of experience spanning both corporate and academic environments, particularly in Human Resource Management, Dr. Ahmed brings a nuanced perspective to faculty development. He understands that faculty need multidimensional support, including resources for course design, access to professional development communities, and collaborative spaces for sharing innovative teaching practices. Recognized with the 2024 Early Career Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence and the Thomas and Lee Ann Lindahl Teaching Excellence Award, Dr. Ahmed is celebrated for his innovative use of high-impact teaching practices. These methods are crafted to prepare students for career readiness while fostering inclusive, student-centered learning environments. Dr. Ahmed\u2019s understanding of teaching and learning has evolved significantly from his early days in corporate training and development to his current scholarly focus on evidence-based pedagogical strategies. He acknowledges that today’s students, especially in the post-COVID era, face unprecedented technological disruptions, heightened mental health challenges, neurodiversity needs, and increased demands for inclusive, relevant learning experiences. In response, Dr. Ahmed has intentionally adapted his instructional philosophy to address these realities. He believes students today require not only content knowledge but also the development of soft skills, resilience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to navigate increasingly complex global workplaces. To meet these evolving needs, Dr. Ahmed asserts that faculty and instructors must adopt high-impact teaching practices, thoughtfully leverage innovative technologies, design inclusive curricula that reflect diverse perspectives, and extend their support systems beyond the classroom through mentoring, advisement, and coaching. Beyond his classroom excellence, Dr. Ahmed actively contributes to institutional leadership as a Faculty Associate at the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and as a member of the UW Systems Office of Professional Instructional Development (OPID) Advisory Council. This role signifies both recognition of his pedagogical leadership and a commitment to shaping institutional conversations about faculty development, emerging topics like generative AI in education, and the cultivation of inclusive excellence across Wisconsin’s higher education system. Dr. Ahmed is a Certified Professional through the Society for Human Resource Management and a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance through the Association for Talent Development.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ahmed’s teaching and learning philosophy rests on a transformative experiential learning model wherein students engage in a continuous loop of knowledge acquisition, deliberate practice, and performance-based learning supported by ongoing assessment and feedback. He fundamentally believes that learning transcends the mere transmission of information; instead, it should be holistic, connecting occupational realities from the workplace to meaningful learning activities within the classroom, ultimately preparing students for career readiness and professional impact. Central to his approach is an unwavering commitment to respect for diversity and inclusion, viewing diverse student backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences not as challenges to accommodate but as invaluable resources and sources of innovation. Dr. Ahmed deliberately designs courses that address unequal access to resources, employ inclusive language, and cultivate an environment where all students feel they belong. He employs a rich repertoire of high-impact instructional strategies, including project-based learning, real-world case studies, simulations, role-playing, podcasts, gamification, inquiry-based learning, and research-engaged teaching\u2014to ensure students develop both technical competencies and behavioral skills in authentic contexts. Beyond course design, his philosophy extends to fostering relationships with students through accessible office hours, mentoring, coaching, and advisement, recognizing that the personal connections and extended interactions outside the classroom often prove most transformative in inspiring students to set ambitious goals, develop professional identities, and engage in lifelong learning.<\/p>\n
