I am fascinated by the mutually influential nature of culture and communication. As a trained ethnographer, I typically use observation and interviews to explore the intersections of communication, culture, and identity. I teach courses in communication theory, intercultural communication, nonverbal communication, ethnographic research methods, and public speaking. Outside of work, I love a good long run and vacationing at the lake with my family.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Teaching and Learning Philosophy<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>I try to be flexible in my approach to teaching, starting by acknowledging that students\u2019 learning needs are constantly changing. This means that my teaching involves lots of editing, trial and error, and collaboration with my students. I aim to model life-long learning by sharing my many mistakes and failures and the learning that has accompanied these experiences. I value meta-communication as a tool for navigating challenging concepts and contexts and encourage my students to participate in routine self-reflection to gain awareness of their growth over time.
