Shanna Nifoussi, an assistant professor of biology and pre-health at University of Wisconsin – Superior since 2018, earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from The University of St. Catherine (Minnesota) and a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Iowa. Her research interests include investigating how thoughtful group formation can increase a sense of belonging and decrease course anxiety in upper level biology courses, and looking at understanding the implications of gender bias on job expectations for instructors. She participated in the UWS Homegrown Scholars program and WTFS in 2019-2020, and looks forward to engaging in more faculty development opportunities through the OPID Advisory Board. Shanna teaches courses in cell biology, microbiology, neurobiology, and anatomy & physiology.
