To be eligible for student employment, an individual must meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" type=\"1\">\n<li><strong>The position is incidental to the individual\u2019s purpose or presence at the UW institution as a student.<\/strong> In other words, the individual\u2019s reason for being on campus is because they are a student, not an employee. It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Factors to consider when making this decision include whether they are taking courses for credit, whether they are working towards a degree, and whether they have a pattern of taking less than a half-time load.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The individual must be enrolled for academic credit at an educational institution.<\/strong> An educational institution is defined as:\n<ul>\n<li>an accredited institution of higher learning granting associate degrees or higher;<\/li>\n<li>a technical college;<\/li>\n<li>a vocational or trade school; or<\/li>\n<li>a high school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>The individual must be at least 16 years of age.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Semester Eligibility<\/strong>\u2014A student may not be employed prior to the first payroll calendar day of the student\u2019s first semester of enrollment. Summer eligibility is the only exception (see Summer Eligibility below). Students who graduate, or complete an academic semester and will not be enrolling in the following semester, may continue to be employed as a student hourly only through the last day of the student hourly pay period of the completed semester. Students who withdraw from school during a semester are no longer eligible for student employment as of the date of withdrawal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Summer Eligibility<\/strong>\u2014Any student who has been accepted for fall enrollment, is continuing in the fall semester after completion of the spring semester, or is enrolled during the summer is eligible for summer employment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"cfct-module uwsa-rich-text\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"cfct-mod-content copy\"><p class=\"small\"><em>The UW System is committed to achieving a diverse workforce and to maintaining a community which welcomes and values a climate supporting equal opportunity and differences among its members.
