For Faculty/Academic Staff/Limited Appointees employees in the UW System, the applicable code of ethics can be found in chapter UWS 8 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code. For classified employees in the UW System, the applicable code of ethics can be found in chapter ER-MRS 24 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code.
During the holiday seasons, questions naturally arise concerning the permissibility of displaying holiday decorations in university work areas.
The display of Christmas trees is generally permissible. Any holiday display with an overtly religious symbol (such as a nativity scene or a menorah) should include at least one other religious symbol from a different religious tradition.
Displays of religious décor and symbols inside employees’ offices and cubicles are generally permissible.

As responsible and interested citizens in a democratic society, employees of the University of Wisconsin are encouraged to fulfill their civic obligations and otherwise engage in the normal political processes of society. Nevertheless, all University employees’ political activities are restricted by Regent policy and state law in three significant ways:
- Employees may not engage in political campaign activities during work time;
- State resources will not be used to engage in political activities at any time (e.g. supplies, equipment, machinery, or vehicles); and
- Employees may not solicit contributions or services for a political purpose from other university employees while engaged in official duties.
