If your work hours are reduced your benefits may be affected. Review the document below for your appointment type for a summary of how your benefits may be affected.

Click on the plan names below for information about how an increase in your hours affects your benefits.

If you are covered by WRS and your appointment increases to 50% or more and:

  • You are not currently enrolled in State Group Health: You may enroll within 30 days from your increase in appointment. You will be eligible for the full employer contribution towards your health insurance premium. Changes are effective the first of the month following receipt of the application.
  • You are currently enrolled in State Group Health: You will begin to receive the full employer contribution towards your health insurance premium. You may also change to family coverage, change health plans, or cancel coverage.

If you are covered by WRS and your appointment decreases to less than 50% and:

  • You are not currently enrolled in State Group Health: Your next opportunity to enroll will be during Annual Benefits Enrollment or if you experience a qualifying life event that allows for an enrollment opportunity.
  • You are currently enrolled in State Group Health: You will be required to pay 50% of the total premium rates. You have 30 days from your FTE change to less than 50% to submit an application to cancel your coverage or change to single coverage; changes are effective the first of the month following receipt of the application.

If you are covered by WRS and your appointment increases to 50% or more and:

  • You are not currently enrolled: You may enroll within 30 days from your increase in appointment. Changes are effective the first of the month following receipt of the application.
  • You are currently enrolled: You may change coverage levels or cancel coverage.

If you are covered by WRS and your appointment decreases to less than 50% and:

  • You are not currently enrolled: Your next opportunity to enroll will be during Annual Benefits Enrollment or if you experience a qualifying life event that allows for an enrollment opportunity.
  • You are currently enrolled: You have 30 days from your FTE change to less than 50% to submit an application to cancel your coverage or change to single coverage; changes are effective the first of the month following receipt of the application.

If your appointment percentage changes, this may allow you to change your Health Care FSA and Dependent Day Care Account contribution. You must submit a change form to your institution benefits contact within 30 days from the date of the change.

You may want to change your contribution amount if your appointment percentage changes.

Beneficiary Designations

Remember to review and update your beneficiary designations when you have a life event to make sure that your benefits are paid according to your wishes. Benefit plans that have beneficiary designations include life insurance plans, retirement plans and the health savings account.
