Some things didn\u2019t work. Yet as time goes on, we continue to learn, grow, and find new and better ways to improve our teaching, course design, and sense of belonging.<\/p>\n<p>With no playbook on how to navigate a pandemic, we have found ways to strengthen our resourcefulness and resiliency. At times, we practiced resiliency to cope with constant changes. Other times we had to rely on our resourcefulness when sudden pivots were needed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on our journey, sharing our experiences, learning from them, and taking the knowledge gained into our next experiences is key to personal and professional growth. She survived and lives life now as a quad amputee.\u00a0 In the face of tragedy and daunting obstacles, Merlyna unleashed a remarkable inner strength that enabled her to lead by example.\u00a0 In her presentation, Merlyna shares some valuable lessons she has learned since 2007, when her life as she knew it was forever changed and she experienced the closest call to death imaginable. Instead of focusing on what happened and what\u2019s missing from her new life, Merlyna chooses to embrace this very different path with a positive attitude.\u00a0 Through her current endeavors as an international speaker and consultant, Merlyna empowers audiences to embrace their personal power and prove what\u2019s possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biography:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Merlyna Mathieu Valentine is an international speaker, author, and consultant. She retired after thirty years having served as a teacher, principal, and executive director in an extraordinarily successful school district in Louisiana. Her transformational leadership as a school principal resulted in her school\u2019s recognition as a \u201cTop Gains\u201d school.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Valentine has received numerous state, national, and international awards and commendations such as teacher of the year, principal of the year, and the University of New Orleans College of Education and Human Development Alumna of the Year. Her leadership successes were featured in an article by the world-renowned Dr. Harry Wong. Ms. Valentine was featured in several news segments and articles including a spotlight in <em>Ebony Magazine<\/em>. Audiences were captivated by her inspirational story of survival, courage, and hope when she was a featured segment on the Today Show. Learning to Cultivate Resilience in Challenging Times<\/h3><p>In recent months, instructors and learners across disciplines have been challenged to learn, shift, and evolve in the midst of stress and uncertainty. In this <strong>interactive virtual keynote<\/strong>, Dr. Katie Linder offers reflective questions to help participants explore what they have learned during this period that can contribute to their personal and professional growth. Participants will also walk away with concrete tools and strategies that can be implemented into classrooms of any modality to support learners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biography<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Currently, Dr. Katie Linder serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Digital Strategy and Learning at the University of Colorado Denver. Previously, she served as associate dean for Kansas State University\u2019s Global Campus and directed the award-winning Ecampus Research Unit at Oregon State University. Katie is also a Certified Coach through the International Coach Federation and a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance. In 2020, she earned her PMP credential from the Project Management Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Katie has a passion for helping others engage in and create meaningful change. For the past several years, her work has focused on the intentional integration of technology into the higher education classroom; how to implement practices and tools for meaningful productivity; and methods for integrating change management theories and techniques into higher education processes. She speaks on topics related to writing and publication; creativity and productivity; and teaching and learning with technology.<\/p>\n<p>Her latest works include <em>Going Alt-Ac: A Guide to Alternative Academic Careers (Stylus, 2020; co-authored with Kevin Kelly and Tom Tobin),<\/em> Managing Your Professional Identity Online: A Guide for Faculty, Staff, and Administrators<em> (Stylus, 2018), High-Impact Practices in Online Education (Stylus, 2018), and The Business of Innovating Online (Stylus, 2019).
