Welcome to the web-based report, Assessing LEAP Wisconsin: A Decade and Counting of Statewide Engagement with Liberal Education and America’s Promise.
This site provides a report evaluating the UW System’s LEAP initiative, the statewide engagement with the national campaign, Liberal Education & America’s Promise or LEAP, developed by the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U).
The report represents the work of the LEAP Wisconsin Steering Committee, convened by the UW System Office of Academic Affairs in winter 2015 to conduct an assessment of the UW System’s LEAP initiative at the charge of President Raymond W. Cross.
The report chronicles the influence and impact of LEAP Wisconsin on UW institutions from 2003-2015, including on the overall culture for teaching and learning and on curricular and organizational innovations designed to support and deepen student learning.
It also tells the story of how to leverage the collective action of a large public higher education system—comprised of talented and dedicated faculty, staff and administrators—to drive student engagement and success.
This site is designed for higher educators and policy-makers in Wisconsin and throughout the nation interested in proven ways to better prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in the 21st century, knowledge-driven, global society.
What is LEAP?
Launched in 2005, Liberal Education and America’s Promise (LEAP) is a national public advocacy and campus action initiative of the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U). As defined by AAC&U, LEAP champions the importance of a twenty-first-century liberal education—for individual students and for a nation dependent on economic creativity and democratic vitality.
LEAP Wisconsin is an umbrella term for more than a decade-old change initiative in the University of Wisconsin System focused on quality and student success. The initiative strengthens how UW institutions deliver on the promise we make to students and the citizens of Wisconsin to provide high-quality higher education to help students lead engaged and fulfilling professional, civic, and personal lives.
