class=\"wp-block-uwsa-accordion\">\n<details class=\"wp-block-uwsa-panel\"><summary>Admitting Hessen Students<\/summary><div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UW institutions follow their own internal policies and procedures related to international admissions. UWs generally require application materials in addition to those collected from students and shared with UWs as part of the nomination process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-uwsa-panel\"><summary>Application &amp; Nomination Deadlines &amp; Process<\/summary><div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students apply to their respective international offices in Germany. Then, applications are forwarded to the Hessen-Wisconsin Exchange Coordinator at Justus Liebig University Giessen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following deadlines and timeline apply to both fall and spring semesters. The Hessen Ministry runs one application cycle per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Deadline<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Action<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>05 December<\/td><td>Hessen administration reviews student applications and uses students\u2019 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, 3<sup>rd<\/sup>, etc. choice placement requests to designate a UW institution for each applicant.Hessen administration emails a list of nominated candidates to the HWX Coordinator at UWS.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>09 December<\/td><td>The HWX Coordinator in Hessen informs students of their selection status.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>15 December<\/td><td>The Hessen Ministry sends official letters to its students. Letters include the assigned UW campus.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>05 January<\/td><td>Students sign an official acceptance declaration&nbsp;<strong>AND submit the Request for Nomination form in VIA.<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>10 January<\/td><td>The HWX Coordinator in Hessen&nbsp;<strong>Nominates<\/strong>&nbsp;students in Via TRM. Students who complete their Nomination Request earlier may be nominated earlier.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Following Nomination<\/td><td>The Hessen-Wisconsin Exchange Coordinator at UWS forwards the following to the appropriate UW institutions via email:student applications and supporting documentsHost Campus Application Status form<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>28 February<\/td><td><strong>At this point, each UW institution corresponds directly with their Hessen student applicants and with the Hessen students\u2019 home institution coordinators as necessary.<\/strong>UW campus contacts complete the \u201cHost Campus Application Status\u201d form to inform HWX Coordinators in Hessen &amp; UWS whether the student has been formally accepted or has been\/will be formally declined.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-uwsa-panel\"><summary>Certificate of Enrollment (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung)<\/summary><div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This form is required by the German Studierendenwerk before a German student can receive funding for study abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may be presented with this form for submission twice &#8211; once prior to departure from Germany and once after arrival on your campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For both of the questions &#8220;The above named student applied for a student waiver&#8221; and &#8220;And got a tuition waiver&#8221;, check &#8220;yes. Students participating through the Hessen Wisconsin Exchange do not pay tuition to their host campus.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-uwsa-panel\"><summary>Course Enrollment<\/summary><div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UWs follow internal policies and procedures for exchange student course enrollment.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-uwsa-panel\"><summary>Course Transfer<\/summary><div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hessen schools require their students to complete a &#8220;Learning Agreement&#8221; before and after arrival in Wisconsin. The student will review and update data in the new Request and click &#8220;Submit&#8221; to confirm the intention to extend.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-uwsa-panel\"><summary>FTE<\/summary><div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Semester exchange students count as 1.0 FTE per semester within the state-to-state exchange. Undergraduate and graduate students are balanced separately.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-uwsa-panel\"><summary>Health Insurance<\/summary><div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students must be enrolled by their host campus in the&nbsp;<strong>UW-contracted insurance plan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-uwsa-panel\"><summary>Internships<\/summary><div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Internships are not promoted to Hessen students in general, but campuses able to advise on J-1 Academic Training may offer this following their own internal policies and procedures.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-uwsa-panel\"><summary>Statement of Tuitions and Fees (Studierendenwerk)<\/summary><div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This form is required by the German Studierendenwerk before a German student can receive funding for study abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may be presented with this form for submission twice &#8211; once prior to departure from Germany and once after arrival on your campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are asked to complete this form before tuition &amp; fees have been formally set for the term of study, you may add a statement such as &#8220;Tuition and fees represented here are tentative. Official tuition and fee schedules will not be available until sometime in August&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-uwsa-panel\"><summary>Study Abroad Fairs in Hessen<\/summary><div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UW campuses that plan to send materials to one or more Hessen campuses prior to a study abroad fair should contact the campus directly to confirm these dates.
