made long-term investments in the University of Wisconsin System.\u00a0Most of the key academic and research buildings on campuses have been built through\u00a0state bonding.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the long-term capital investments, the state contributes to the annual budget of\u00a0the UW System.<\/p>\n<p>For fiscal year 2016-17, the state allocated slightly over $1 billion to UW System\u2019s operating\u00a0budget, which helped to support over $24 billion in UW System economic activity.
