UW System Coronavirus/COVID-19 EOC Update

9 million cases worldwide. Germany considering new movement restrictions. Study with sewage samples in Italy shows presence of virus dating two months prior to positive tests there. In the U.S., cases increasing in the south and southwest, particularly among 20-39 year olds; also resulting in decrease in death rates. Contact tracing going poorly, with tracers quitting over lack of support by supervisors, threats from people they are contacting, etc. Overall seeing better clinical management of cases. In Wisconsin, communities of color continue to have higher morbidity rates. State Department of Public Instruction issued guidance for K-12 schools.
Travel: Study shows 50% of companies indicate they are going to renew domestic travel in the next few months. Reports that White House to issue Executive Order suspending work visas. So far, 7 campuses are canceling fall study abroad programs, 6 campuses are still in the final approval/decision making process.
Plan Ahead Team: Meeting this afternoon and awaiting fall recommendations to be finalized.
Communications: Former Gov. Tommy Thompson named Interim President; likely in office for up to 24 months. Next search won’t start for a year.
