Sub-Zero Group, Inc., manufacturer of leading luxury kitchen appliance brands Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove, continues to show its dedication to\u00a0engineering<\/a>\u00a0at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a $100,000 gift to support the new Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove Engineering Instrumentation Lab in Sesquicentennial Hall.<\/p>\n

According to Jessica Fick, assistant dean of the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science, the\u00a0Sub-Zero,\u00a0Wolf, and Cove Engineering Instrumentation Lab serves three disciplines directly:\u00a0mechanical engineering<\/a>,\u00a0electrical engineering<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0software engineering<\/a>. One of the main design themes for Sesquicentennial Hall was to encourage collaboration across the disciplines, and this lab is a prime example of delivering on that promise. Not only do these disciplines hold classes in the lab, but it also serves as a prototyping hub for devices that require sensors, instrumentation and control. It allows students and faculty to find components and equipment for testing solutions much more quickly than ordering and then testing.<\/p>\n

\u201cSponsorship and partnerships with industry are vital to providing hands-on experiences for our students,\u201d said Fick. \u201cFunding supports programs, staff and equipment that make the student experience that much richer \u2013 developing the ability to think creatively, make connections and create value in their future careers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCollaboration across engineering disciplines is key to our company\u2019s success,\u201d said Terry Hoffmann, senior director of corporate design for Sub-Zero Group. \u201cWe are grateful for the opportunity to support UW-Platteville\u2019s College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science through a facility that will foster collaborative, experiential learning.\u201d<\/p>\n
