Middle school students from the Boys &amp; Girls Club in Menomonie will take part in Tech Tuesdays this spring. \/ UW-Stout<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>University collaboration is part of club\u2019s grant to engage children through hands-on learning<\/h3>\n<p>Middle school students from the Menomonie\u2019s Boys &amp; Girls Club will learn about cool technology and eating healthy thanks to a new collaborative grant with University of Wisconsin-Stout.<\/p>\n<p>To help engage children in Menomonie, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcvclubs.org%2F&amp;data=05%7C01%7Cpolingj%40uwstout.edu%7C3a1349d9b89449c1f3a908da75797e37%7Cb71a81a32f9543819b89c62343a66052%7C0%7C0%7C637951461962773955%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=q65%2BYnSwupTFU4w6ksg71gwzVRtTo0MaLkpR6rcER38%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley<\/a>\u00a0recently received a 21st Century Community Learning Centers award of nearly $57,000, part of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act through the state Department of Public Instruction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis funding truly gives Menomonie Middle School students exciting opportunities,\u201d said CEO Ann Kaiser. \u201cWe will be able to provide unique experiences only available to\u00a0club kids, thanks in large part to the partnership and generous outreach of UW-Stout. This grant is a testimony to the power of collaboration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Boys &amp; Girls Club programming with UW-Stout will include two initiatives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tech Tuesdays\u00a0<\/strong><strong>will provide opportunities<\/strong>\u00a0for up to 50 students a week to attend 12 Discovery Center\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwstout.edu\/directory\/fab-lab\">Fab Lab<\/a>\u00a0sessions this spring. Students will work with 3D printers, laser cutters and other equipment not commonly accessible to that age group. It will cover healthy eating habits, attitudes, knowledge and perceptions and include hands-on activities like cooking, food tasting, canning, pickling and diet analysis.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the Fab Lab and Just Eat It! club members can attend field trips to campus for career, education and special interests as part of a larger grant initiative in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe partnership will continue to serve the community&#8217;s young people by providing fun and robust learning experiences. The opportunity also provides UW-Stout students with hands-on experiences in their area of study,\u201d said\u00a0Tamara Brantmeier, UW-Stout associate vice chancellor of Partner and Student Engagement.<\/p>\n<p>The Menomonie club is part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcvclubs.org%2F&amp;data=05%7C01%7Cpolingj%40uwstout.edu%7C3a1349d9b89449c1f3a908da75797e37%7Cb71a81a32f9543819b89c62343a66052%7C0%7C0%7C637951461962773955%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=q65%2BYnSwupTFU4w6ksg71gwzVRtTo0MaLkpR6rcER38%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley<\/a>, which includes clubs in Eau Claire, Altoona, Chippewa Falls and Black River Falls.
