Funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Energy, and the summer program is administered through the American Chemical Society\u2019s Division of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology.<\/p>\n<p>Rider, who is minoring in biology, is the second UW-Whitewater student to have won this rare distinction, the previous recipient being\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uww.edu\/news\/archive\/2018-04-chemistry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Katherine Ceschi<\/a>\u00a0in 2018. Both were mentored by Professor of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/cls\/departments\/chemistry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chemistry<\/a>\u00a0Hephzibah Kumpaty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Brookhaven National Laboratory summer school program in nuclear chemistry is reserved for students of outstanding academic talent and active participation in undergraduate research,\u201d said Kumpaty, who has been teaching at UW-Whitewater for 24 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRobert will be an excellent chemist. He\u2019s a good, focused student who\u2019s an independent thinker, a self-starter and a very organized individual.
