At UW-La Crosse, creativity isn\u2019t confined to the arts programs. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to explore their artistic side.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A prime example is Chase Hendricks, a senior majoring in\u00a0sport management<\/a>\u00a0with a minor in\u00a0business administration<\/a>, who won this year\u2019s Wings of the Year art contest for UWL\u2019s annual\u00a0<\/span>Eagle Fest<\/a> celebration on Sept. 5.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cArt has always played a big role in my life,\u201d Hendricks says. \u201cI\u2019ve loved being creative for as long as I can remember \u2014 drawing, painting and making things whenever I had the chance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While his interests shifted toward sports in middle school, Hendricks found a way to merge the two through sports design, eventually leading him to develop professional-level graphics.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, while interning with a local baseball team, I decided to invest in the Adobe Creative Suite and take my designs more seriously,\u201d Hendricks explains. \u201cThat was a turning point.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His recent design work includes an alternate game-day identity for the Green Bay Rockers, a complete visual brand for the Wheels for All wheelchair basketball tournament, and now, the Wings of the Year piece.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span>Chase\u2019s design stood out to the Eagle Fest committee because it blends a compelling reference to the bluffs with a clean, vibrant aesthetic that perfectly represents our campus and community<\/span>,\u201d says\u00a0Kyle Burke<\/a>, director of University Centers and student engagement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hendricks\u2019 design will be the centerpiece of this fall\u2019s festivities, being featured on the\u00a0Student Union<\/a>\u00a0window (north side), digital signs, posters and T-shirts available for purchase during Eagle Fest.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe final wings design you see was actually the fourth version I created,\u201d Hendricks says. \u201cAfter trial and error, I eventually landed on the current version: an abstract scene of a sunrise over the bluffs and Mississippi River.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Using Adobe Illustrator, Hendricks brought the beauty of the La Crosse region to life.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the most common compliments I hear about UWL and La Crosse is how beautiful and vibrant the surroundings are, so I wanted to capture that,\u201d he explains.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond the design, Hendricks is deeply involved on campus as the social media coordinator for the Sport Management Association. He is also an avid participant in\u00a0intramural sports<\/a>. When asked what he loves most about UWL, he does not hesitate.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the strong sense of community,\u201d Hendricks says. \u201cThat\u2019s also what I love about Eagle Fest. It brings the whole campus together and showcases everything UWL has to offer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
