Sesquicentennial event showcases campus memorabilia<\/h2>\n

April 22, 2025 –\u00a0Community members are invited to peek at the past during an unveiling of items recovered from a time capsule buried at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls five decades ago.<\/p>\n

Contents of the time capsule will be on display for viewing Tuesday, May 6, from 2-6 p.m.<\/strong> in the University Archives and Area Research Center, room 170 in the lower level of the Chalmer Davee Library. The event will offer attendees the opportunity to see a display of items and artifacts from the capsule, providing a snapshot of campus life from the time it was sealed 50 years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cTime capsules provide a glimpse of our history,\u201d said University Archivist Morgan Paavola. \u201cThey offer a tangible connection to those who came before us, allowing us to understand their hopes, dreams and the everyday realities of their time.\u201d<\/p>\n

UWRF Archives staff and the UWRF History Club have been working to document a selection of items that had been placed in the time capsule when it was buried in 1975 as part of the university\u2019s 100th anniversary. The opening of the capsule coincides with UWRF\u2019s sesquicentennial celebration this year, marking 150 years of campus history. The time capsule contents help foster an appreciation for the university’s rich history and its connection to the wider community.<\/p>\n

The time capsule display will remain open for viewing through the end of May. University Archives hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Friday by appointment.<\/p>\n
