Tamami Igeta is an international student from Japan triple-majoring in marketing, supply chain management, and business analytics.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Data is everywhere and powers everything that we do. People with the skills to properly analyze and display data to inform managerial decisions are highly sought in nearly every industry.<\/p>\n

For Tamami Igeta, an international student from Japan triple-majoring in\u00a0marketing<\/a>,\u00a0supply chain management<\/a>, and\u00a0business analytics<\/a>, the numbers played an important role in her decision to attend the University of Wisconsin-Superior.<\/p>\n

\u201cUWS was the one of the most affordable [universities] for me,\u201d said Igeta, who is set to graduate this spring. \u201cI also liked the small-class environment, which I thought would be helpful for me. As an international student, I was not good at English. I really wanted to have close relationship with my professors, so I can ask for help anytime.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nOn campus, Igeta was able to connect with peers which helped ignite her passion for learning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI met so many students, staff and faculty that are really passionate for what they\u2019re learning or what they\u2019re teaching,\u201d she said. \u201cIt inspired me to work harder and pursue my career goals. UWS helped me by providing lots of opportunities to grow personally, academically and professionally.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her time at UW-Superior, Igeta has become connected with the campus community. She currently works in the office of Institutional Research as an office manager and is active with\u00a0Student Involvement<\/a>. Igeta was also president of the World Student Association for two years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was able to meet so many students with different backgrounds \u2013 international students from different countries that I\u2019ve never heard of,\u201d she said. \u201cSo, it was really inspiring for me to listen to their stories and hear why they came here, and why they\u2019re studying whatever they are studying.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fortunately for Igeta, her time at UW-Superior coincided with the addition of the business analytics major.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I came here, I was interested in the logic behind businesses like Netflix and its recommendations section,\u201d she said. \u201cI was interested in how that works.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my freshman year, I realized there wasn\u2019t a program here that I could pursue my interest in that study. But then, Professor\u00a0Kyle [Roszkowski]<\/a>\u00a0started the business analytics major.\u201d<\/p>\n

UW-Superior\u2019s business analytics major equips students with the skills and knowledge to collect, analyze and visualize data. In this program, students learn how to best compile results and communicate recommendations to various stakeholders. The major provides graduates with a strong foundation in general business practices and in-depth program-specific content.<\/p>\n

The depth of study was immediately something Igeta wanted to pursue.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018oh, this is it,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cIt was the major that I wanted, and it included the things that I wanted to study. All along I had the interest, but I just didn\u2019t have the program, but UW-Superior started it at just the right time for me. I was really lucky, I guess.\u201d<\/p>\n

The program has been a great fit for Igeta, who is also interning this semester with Minnesota Power, which allows her to practice classroom learning in a real-world environment.<\/p>\n

In addition to her internship at Minnesota Power, Tamami has worked in UW-Superior\u2019s Office of Institutional Research and Sponsored Programs as a data analyst intern since her sophomore year. She quickly learned Tableau, a data visualization software, and has built numerous dashboards for the university.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer research skills, creativity, and data visualization capabilities are astounding,\u201d said\u00a0Emily Neumann<\/a>, director of the Office of Institutional Research and Sponsored Programs. \u201cTamami has been extremely helpful to our IRSP team, and we are excited to see where Tamami\u2019s talents lead her after graduation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m using all the skills that I learned in school at the internship,\u201d she said. \u201cI can already see the potential. All the skills that I have learned are going to be useful in the future. Triple-majoring in marketing, supply chain management, and business analytics was great for me. I was really interested in business analytics and the intersection of business analytics and marketing and in the connection between business analytics and supply chain management.\u201d<\/p>\n
